An annual event in Beaconsfield Childcare’s calendar, World Book Day is now in its 21st year and is designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. Whilst we know dress-up days aren’t always a parent’s favourite thing, the children absolutely love seeing the costumes of their carers and all their friends so we really appreciate the effort everyone makes. Of course we share books all the time at our nurseries but it is always great to be involved in an event that you know children all over the world are enjoying on the very same day.
At Northgate House Nursery, as well as enjoying everyone’s costumes, lots of children also brought their favourite books from home to nursery to show to their friends. The Gruffalo was definitely the most popular!
We spent even more time than usual enjoying reading and stories. Children in Rocket Space made some masks and all the rooms had different colouring activities inspired by famous children’s books.
At Brindley House Nursery we also enjoyed our fancy dress opportunity!
The puppet show we put on was a huge success and we shared many different types of story throughout the day. One of the other key activities we had planned took place the week after World Book Day. As part of the NDNA’s Healthy Body Happy Me initiative children completed their Daily Mile by walking to WHSmith’s with their World Book Day vouchers to get their free books. This was such a lovely experience for them.
Thank you to all our staff and parents for making such a great effort with dressing up!
